Even though you may already be volunteering here or in other places, joining the online community we are building will make your impact greater as an individual volunteer, and our impact greater as an organization. We will all be leading the way for new people to volunteer (or come back to volunteering), building a culture of “mutual aid” in Greenfield.
Times are hard for many people, and getting harder. Though we may not (yet/always) live in a place with wildfires, hurricanes, tsunamis, droughts or plagues, we are not immune; and the influx of immigrants from island and war-torn nations tells us we are not alone. We need to scale up our community resilience.
Some day, as has happened before, a flood or a storm or a new pandemic will require us to mobilize fast to help lessen the harms and recover faster. That is what it means to be resilient. If we are already in the mutual aid frame of mind, ready to help neighbors we do not yet know, that will make the whole community stronger.
Resilient Greenfield’s new platform, GivePulse (https://greenfield.givepulse.com) is a place for volunteers, their employers and the places that need help to find each other. When we need to find help in an emergency, this network will have a wider reach than FaceBook or NextDoor, particularly if you download the mobile app (Apple | Google) after joining.
If you are joining with other employees, you’ll be providing more of an incentive for other people to join and reasons to ask them about their experiences volunteering. If you are joining with other volunteers, you’ll build a sense of who is helping out where, and how people in Greenfield (and nearby towns) care about helping each other and building place-based solidarity.
Once you join, you will have an easy way to browse and pick new places to help out you might not know about, maybe roles that are great fits for your skills and values. You may get messages from other volunteers who know you and notice you here. And in a moment of need, you may get a call to action. This is the basic pattern of how GivePulse works, and it is why we are asking you to join us online.
Thank you for helping us build an online volunteer community!
