Some organizations use their own volunteering platforms, but would like to open up to volunteers from outside their existing pools. Stone Soup uses an internal platform called Track-it-Forward and has a robust volunteer community, but also have growing needs. What if, by Wednesday, one or more Friday Meal Prep shifts are not yet filled?
To prepare for this situation, they can “stage” (save unpublished) a GivePulse event to activate when they want to ask for volunteers outside their platform. When they create a Track-It-Forward event, it has a separate URL (web address) they email to their existing volunteers when they have open shifts. From the perspective of GivePulse, Track-It-Forward events are “external” because shifts are managed outside it. As of Sunday 4/6, they still needed volunteers for their Friday 4/11 meal prep, so we created an event for that purpose.
If your group does not use an external platform, but you need to manage shifts for your events, almost all of this training applies – including duplicating events to use later. If this goes too fast, you can slow down the settings using YouTube, or while you catch up, if trying this yourself.
